About K&T
Our story
K&T (pronounced Kay-and-Tay) was born from real motherhood, not theory.
When my first son, was born, he struggled to sleep from the very beginning. Short naps, early mornings, endless overtiredness. I tried every piece of sleep advice, until the thing that finally changed everything was almost laughably simple: a truly dark room.
Out of pure exhaustion, I bought a £10 plastic blackout panel and my husband got cutting and sticking. It wasn’t pretty, but it worked. For the first time, he slept — and so did I.
a considered beginning
One day, my neighbour Cassie and I started talking about the power of a dark room for our children. She shared a blackout panel she had hand-made using a beautiful fabric (much nicer than our plastic panel!). And in that moment, something clicked:
Why couldn’t blackout be both functional and beautiful? Something durable, calming, beautiful and able to grow with your child?
That question led to the very first version of The Calm Panel, which saw us through toddler regressions, early wake-ups, and eventually the arrival of my second son, whose sleep journey was much calmer with a blackout from day one.
When my sister, who suffers from insomnia, asked if I could make her one, and it worked, I knew this was bigger than a parenting hack. It was the beginning of something meaningful.
What began as a survival tool became a family essential. And then it became my purpose.
Our name: K&T
Kay&Tay is inspired by the names of our little boys who shaped this journey.
But the name has come to hold a deeper meaning for us. To us, K&T represents care, intention, and the importance of the family - the place where everything begins.
Our brand began from love, and from a simple truth I learned through motherhood: when a child sleeps well, the whole family feels calmer.
K&T is our way of helping families find a little more of that calm.
Our Why
Motherhood is beautiful, overwhelming, and often a little isolating. Through it all, the smallest things can bring the greatest sense of relief.
For me, creating K&T was an act of intention. A way to bring calm, clarity, and care into my own home, and into the lives of other families. Everything we make begins with that same purpose: to support families with something simple, thoughtful and beautifully made.
At the heart of K&T is The Calm Panel. A gentle, design-led blackout solution that adapts as your children grow, and brings a sense of stillness to the spaces you all share.
Because the magic isn’t the darkness. It’s the Calm it creates for your family.
